Samsung, HTC, Huawei join Nokia as first Windows Phone 8 hardware makers

[From The Verge]
Microsoft just announced four special hardware partners for Windows Phone 8 — Nokia, Huawei, Samsung, and HTC will have Windows Phone 8 devices running on "next generation silicon" from Qualcomm. There weren't any details on exactly what this silicon would be, but we're guessing it'll be a dual-core processor. Microsoft and its partners are ready for a global push, as well: the company announced that it'll launch in more than 180 countries in 50 languages, more than Apple announced last week.

Additionally, Microsoft released some details on software updates for its future hardware — all software updates will be pushed over the air, and all Windows Phone 8 devices will get "at least" 18 months of software support after launch. The company also announced some details on an "enthusiast" program — registered enthusiasts will get early access to updates before the broad consumer rollout.

[My Take]

LG apparently quit the tablet race to focus on smartphones and other consumer electronics like smart TVs. If Windows 8 is highly expected to beat the smartphone OS game, I could not help but wonder why LG did not join Nokia as Windows 8 hardware maker.

LG introduced its Google TV this year and proved that they know how to get consumer’s attention to their Smart TV products and know that the importance of different consumer taste when it comes to Smart TV platform. This same logic should also apply to LG smartphones. Knowing that Android will not only be the sole OS for smartphones (excluding iPhone), therefore joining the Finnish company as Windows 8 hardware maker just like what their Korean cousin, Chinese, Taiwanese counterparts did is not a matter of whether you are joining or not but rather when do you join the herd? There is no better answer than Now.
